Highways

The three towns are all in close proximity to North Carolina Interstate and Highways.  In fact, Interstate 77 splits each of the three towns as it runs from Columbia, SC in the South to Cleveland, Ohio in the North.  In total I-77 stretches 610 miles and provides a route through North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio, terminating at connections in Columbia, South Carolina (Interstate 26) and Cleveland, Ohio (Interstate 90).

Interstate 85 sits to the east of the three towns of the Lake Norman region.  I-85 runs from Petersberg, Virginia where it connects with Interstate 95 in the North, through North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, before terminating in Montgomery, Alabama in the South where it connects with Interstate 65.

The Towns of Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson are also about 20-25 miles south of the major national east-west highway Interstate 40.  This 2,554-mile long stretch runs from Wilmington, NC in the east, terminating at State Highway 132 to Barstow, California in the west where it terminates at Interstate 15.  Traveling east to west on I-40 goes through the states of North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

Both Interstates 85 and 40 lead into the Piedmont Triad region of the state where a new FedEx air cargo regional shipping hub will be operational at Piedmont Triad International Airport by the end of the decade.  Other area FedEx hubs are located in Charlotte and Greensboro.

The soon to be complete Interstate 485 will serve as an outer beltway around Charlotte.  This outerbelt will also connect all six of the towns in Mecklenburg County (Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville) in addition to linking Interstates 77 and 85, and increasing access points to Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the UNC Charlotte campus.
