Airports

The main international airport in the area is Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Charlotte Douglas is owned and operated by the City of Charlotte and averages 534 daily departures and over 25 million passengers annually. It is ranked among the nation's top airports and serves the needs of commercial, cargo, corporate, private, military and trucking operations. In 2004, Charlotte Douglas had 25,543,374 passengers and carried 184,282 tons of cargo, ranking 19th and 35th respectively across these categories among all U.S. airports in 2004.

Other area airports include nearby Concord Regional Airport, the fourth largest in the state and home to many Nascar fleets, Hickory Regional Airport, and smaller airports for passenger and private travel in the region include Lake Norman Airpark in Mooresville and Wilgrove Air Park in Charlotte. Other than Charlotte Douglas, the nearest international airport is found in Greensboro with Piedmont Triad International Airport.
