Peninsula Yacht Club, a 950-member club, offers 405 slips varying from 25-45 feet in length. Sailboats are a popular sight on windy days at the lake. A business-diverse community, the Town of Cornelius is home to NASCAR, the arts and manufacturing. One highlight of the Cornelius business community is Raceworld USA, home of Michael Waltrip Racing. Raceworld USA is a NASCAR shop where visitors can tour seven days a week. Visitors get the opportunity to see Waltrip’s cars and his crews in every aspect of operation from the machine shop to engineering and the pit practice area.
Cornelius is also home to the Jon Hair Studio of Fine Art, L.L.C. Jon Hair is the most highly commissioned monumental sculptor in the United States. Over the last five years alone, Hair received over 20 major public art commissions. He was honored in 2003 as the Official Sculptor of The U.S. Olympic Team and The U.S. Olympic Committee. Other public commissions received by Hair include The Olympic Truce Foundation in Athens, Greece, the U.S. Air Force Academy, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Wake Forest University, University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Davidson College.

Curtis Screw Company manufactures precision-machined Swiss and multiple spindle screw machine parts for many industries, including the automotive industry, medical and military components, electrical and electronic connectors, and communication and valve components. Curtis Screw Co. was founded in 1905 in Buffalo, New York and has operations in four U.S. locations, including Cornelius, North Carolina.
Cornelius continues to be progressive with new developments and ideas. Plans are underway for The Village at Lake Norman, an expansive new 104-acre mixed use office, retail/restaurant, residential and hotel development with I-77 frontage.
