HIGHWAYS
Interstate 77 bisects Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson as it runs from Columbia, SC to Cleveland, Ohio. I-77 provides easy access to Uptown Charlotte and is the Lake Norman Region’s link to I-40, I-85 and I-485.
Interstate 85 runs just a few miles to the east of the Lake Norman region. The primary route between Charlotte and Atlanta, I-85 continues south to I-65 in Alabama. To the east, I-85 terminates in Virginia where it connects to I-95, the major north/south highway on the East Coast.
Interstate 40 is a major east/west route approximately 20-25 miles north of Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson. I-40 stretches 2,554 miles from Wilmington, NC to Barstow, California, passing through Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona along the way.
Interstate 485, now nearing completion, is an outer beltway around Charlotte that will connect Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson to other suburban communities, link I-77 and I-85, and provide additional access to Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the UNC Charlotte campus.
Both I-85 and I-40 connect to the Piedmont Triad region where a new FedEx air cargo regional hub will soon be operational at Piedmont Triad International Airport.
RAIL
The Lake Norman Region is served by Norfolk Southern Corporation and is part of the largest consolidated rail system in the U.S. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has its own Rail Division, which focuses on rail-related issues within the state. NCDOT recognizes the importance of rail to prospective industries as evidenced by their rail industrial access program, which awards state funds to construct or refurbish tracks required by a new or expanded industry.

AIRPORTS
Charlotte Douglas International Airport serves the needs of commercial, cargo, corporate, private, military and trucking operations in the area, and is ranked among the nation's top airports for both passengers and cargo. Charlotte Douglas is a major U.S. hub and international gateway, with non-stop service to 123 cities including London, Frankfurt and Munich.

SEAPORTS
Major East coast ports are easily accessible from the Lake Norman Region. Shipments in and out of these ports are aided by the Charlotte Inland Terminal (CIT). There is also an inland terminal in Greensboro.
